If you want to become more civically engaged, improve your own musical skills to create messages in your music, or are simply motivated to take action in any way, shape, or form, here are some actions that you can take!

Volunteer with Headcount!

HeadCount
HeadCount is an organization that fuses music and activism together. When you volunteer, you go to an event - a Broadway show, concert, etc. - and register attendees to vote. It’s an amazing way to make an impact on our democracy by increasing political engagement, and you may even get to see a sold out concert for free!

Attend a GuitarMash Teen Songwriting Circle

GuitarMash
GuitarMash Songwriting Circles are great outlets for creative expression and learning. You can share your own music, as well as hear songs by fellow teenagers. In addition, you will get to spend time with professional artists to talk through the art of songwriting to improve your skills. Finally, you can attend themed Circles, such as “Songs for Change,” to connect your music to advocacy.

Resources

Genius
Almost all songs have their lyrics posted on genius.com. However, this site not only publishes a song’s lyrics but also the references within them. For example, if a line in a song subtly refers to a historical event that you’re unaware of, Genius will provide you with the context behind that lyric.
